Some Time Alone

This project features a series of postcards that has illustrations
inspired by Hikikomori, a combination of Japanese words Hiki (to withdraw)
and Komori (to be inside). Hikikomori is a form of severe social withdrawal where
a person is unable to leave the comforts of their home, making them unable to
attend school or work.
As Hikikomori is a growing problem in Japan and is seen as something negative while
postcards are seen as something that spreads joy and nostalgia to people, I decided to
base the illustrations on spaces a hikikomori would find themselves to be the most
comfortable in. Namely spaces such as the comforts of one's home, plushie cafe,
internet cafe, manga cafe, and capsule hotel.
